Community for New Direction

CND has been providing effective leadership development and prevention programs to youth from high-risk neighborhoods in Franklin County for 25 years. While ensuring that participating youth do not use alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, CND programs help kids to develop the skills necessary to refuse drugs and alcohol, and to diffuse volatile situat... ions. Community for New Direction, with your support, is able to give students in our programs the best chance at a bright and healthy future. In addition to in school programs, after school programs, and summer day camp, we provide back-to-school supplies, Thanksgiving meals and Christmas gifts for economically disadvantaged families. CND programs also appeal to young adults. CND provides Future Opportunities Created for Urban Students (FOCUS) and each spring introduces high school students to our rich tradition of touring colleges. To help with job training and placement, CND launched Career Pathways earlier this year for youth ages 17-21. CND personnel work with young adults who need to complete their GED or who need help finding gainful employment after detention. Our skilled staff recently received recognition for outstanding work, including a special citation from the governor's office and seven awards from the Ohio Department of Youth Services.
