A registered charity, Communication Unlimited (CU), is committed to empowering deaf people by supporting their equal opportunities in employment, training, education and in accessing different services. All our interpreters are NRCPD accredited, DBS checked and follow a strict code of conduct, including guidance on handling confidential and sensiti... ve information. Every interpreter is qualified to BSL Level 6, English qualifications and receives regular training to ensure the services offered are of the highest quality. Covering Derby and Derbyshire, CU has service agreements with Derbyshire County Council and University Hospitals of Derby and Burton Hospitals NHS FT among others. We have also provided interpreters for a host of other firms including Rolls-Royce, Sainsbury's, Thorntons, Toyota, Specsavers, Derby City Council and Derby Theatre as well as a number of schools including Royal School for the Deaf Derby. The organisation is user-controlled with a management committee made up of Deaf and hearing people which ensures that the services we offer reflect the true needs of the community. Our interpreters are extremely loyal to the deaf community and Communication Unlimited has also signed the British Sign Language Charter, run by the British Deaf Association, which ensures better access and opportunities for deaf people. The BSL Charter includes pledges to improve access for deaf people to local services and information, to promote learning and high-quality teaching of British Sign Language, to support deaf children and families, to ensure staff working with deaf people can communicate effectively in British Sign Language and to consult with the local Deaf community on a regular basis.
