In the event malpractice occurs in our representation, you are protected by the firm's malpractice insurance policy and the assets of the firm. In addition, the attorney who represents you may be personally liable to you for any negligence in that representation as well as that of any attorney or staff member whom he or she supervises. Thus, if your attorney uses other firm members to work on your matter, he or she is also responsible for their actions on your behalf. However, because the firm is a limited liability partnership, you may not look to the personal assets of the other attorneys in the firm who are not involved in your case. The Wisconsin Supreme Court requires law firms operating as limited liability entities to register annually with the State Bar of Wisconsin and to carry certain minimum liability insurance coverage.
