COLEACP increasingly provides support to ACP agricultural businesses that are signing up to labour standards, generally to meet the demands of their EU buyers. European consumers are more and more interested in knowing about the conditions under which food is produced and, in response, EU retailers are keen to provide assurance that their purchases... do not involve unacceptable practices in terms of (for example) worker health and safety, payment of personnel, or child labour. They provide this assurance by selecting suppliers who voluntarily opt for certification against a social standard. Since 1973, PIP has been helping ACP businesses and producer groups meet these standards. Recent examples include support towards adoption of the GLOBALG.A.P.
