When we look a little closer, many are energy dense, contain little to no vegetables, are expensive to buy and less environmentally friendly considering extra packaging and delivery. By sharing the cooking effort, we can create great food that is more satisfying, and is quicker and easier to prepare than buying take-away meals. We can share skills, cook a wider variety of healthy food, trial new recipes, add international flavours and have fun together. Cooking together saves time and shares costs which results in savings and making quality ingredients more affordable. We can all eat healthier food: We are often short of time which makes planning well balanced meals difficult, resulting in the purchase of overpriced, unhealthy and unsatisfying food. The EAT-Lancet Commission on Food, Planet, Health brought together more than 30 world-leading scientists from across the globe to reach consensus on the definition of a healthy and sustainable diet. To meet this objective, global consumption of fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes will have to double, and consumption of foods such as red meat and sugar will have to be reduced by more than 50%.
