CBH's regional development strategy focuses on the development and implementation of grain storage, handling and transport systems that accommodate production trends, increase efficiencies for growers and meet the economic and environmental requirements of the community and the region. Albany region are currently being undertaken, CBH anticipates that the next phase of conceptual engineering and expenditure for the terminal upgrade project, would commence before the 2002 harvest. The in-principle multi-million dollar commitment by CBH is a direct response to continuing production growth and the increasing difficulty in achieving efficient logistics, handling and storage operations at the CBH Albany port terminal. CBH Chief Executive Officer, Imre Mencshelyi said that the feasibility study, being conducted by Transfield WA, would seek to address a number of outcomes. "Any upgrades to the terminal will need to provide for better services and better efficiencies for grain growers - improved road and rail discharge operations, increased storage and cargo assembly capability, streamlining of road access to the weighing and sampling areas and increased rail rates. "In turn, this will provide growers delivering direct to the terminal with quicker turn-around times, which will give them more time to work on the farm during peak harvesting times. "It will also enable rail transport to operate more efficiently and with greater flexibility in the Albany zone enabling better use of up-country storages, hand-in-hand with a better response to shipping fluctuations. "Any planned port works are part of our integrated regional approach to developing grain storage and handling infrastructure within the Albany zone, which also includes upgrading receival points at Cranbrook, Borden, Gnowangerup and Gairdner.
