Victoria Place is a prestigious retail shopping centre, adjacent to Victoria Underground Station in the centre of London, containing the shops and restaurants of many high street brands... . At 01:00 one morning a fire broke out in the Food Court at Victoria Place, started by an electrical fault. The security staff on site cut the electricity supply, opened the Centre to allow access to the emergency services and alerted the Classic Security Response Centre who, in turn, contacted the Centre Manager. Our Duty Manager, who that night was our Operations Director, then drove to the Centre Managers house, picked him up and accompanied him to Victoria Place. With the Centre in darkness and open to allow emergency access, the Response Centre mobilised our Area Rapid Response Vehicles to attend the site, in order to strengthen security. With no power on site, we utilised our emergency supply of "wind up" torches, supplemented by the Rapid Response Security staff power lights. Four hours after the alarm had been raised the Fire Brigade vacated the premises, power was restored and, with the assistance of the Classic team, sufficient contractors were mobilised to enable the Centre to open for business on time. The fact that one of our Directors attended this incident in the early hours of the morning and coordinated the security effort is not exceptional. Our management team are hands on.
