Christie's Bistro

Welcome to Christies Bistro perhaps one of the University of Manchesters most breath taking venues. Based in the old Science Library of Owens College, it still remains one of the institutions, if not Manchesters best hidden gem. Built in 1890 as the new Study of Education, the Christies Library was a gift from the former law professor, historian an... d bibliophile Richard Copley Christie. For much of the twentieth century it housed the Universitys principle science library. One hundred years later, and after the building of main University Library, the Christie Science Library was converted into a Bistro, steeped in the institutions history and character, with portraits of previous Vice-Chancellors gracing the walls and endless rows of original books and documents. Christies is the perfect place to relax with friends and colleagues. We offer a chilled lounge area to sit and enjoy light bites, artisan coffees and cold drinks, or a more formal dining a la carte restaurant. We have a range of food options available throughout the day. Lunch in our Lounge or Restaurant is served between 12noon and 3pm. Afternoon Tea is available between 2pm 4pm.
