Christie Norvell

Christie Norvell, a K-8 teacher, reading specialist, curriculum director and principal is a midwestern gal with traditional values. She started her career in rural Illinois, moved to Chicago schools, then California: Inglewood, Manhattan Beach and Los Angeles. She received a Ph.D. from UCLA in Education and Business. Her dissertation was in the UCL... A Anderson School, on Characteristics of Principal Leadership in High Achieving Schools. Dr. Norvells most recent position was a Consultant for the International Center for Leadership in Education, Rexford, New York. Before that she was a Consultant and a coach for principals and teachers in the Los Angeles Inner City Education Foundation, ICEF, where she taught lessons in over a hundred classrooms a year. Christie was the Principal of Pacific School for 21 years and Frank D. Parent School for two years. Under her watch as Principal of Pacific School, the API scores soared from 767 to 971 and Pacific was named a National Blue Ribbon School, one of the top 2% of schools in the Nation. Christie is passionate about building schools with a strong, cohesive culture, with parents who feel welcome and involved in their childrens learning. She believes that teachers should collaborate and involve their students with active participation strategies. Students should be developmentally placed in those classrooms to encourage independence and achievement. Christie also works to inspire students to higher level thinking, creativity, and empathy, to make this a better world. She is a stickler for old-fashioned manners and appropriate behavior, all taught with the positive approach. She is willing to share her mistakes as a mom/teacher/principal and what she has learned from living and teaching in MB.
