The Co-operative Housing Federation of BC

The Co-operative Housing Federation of BC (CHF BC) is a membership organization representing and serving housing co-operatives and their members throughout British Columbia, with the majority of member co-ops concentrated in Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island. CHF BC unites co-ops and associated organizations to provide comprehensive support, res... ources, and services that enable member co-ops to govern and manage their homes and communities effectively. The organization delivers a robust suite of educational and advisory offerings, including workshops, webinars, conferences, and consultation services designed to equip co-op leaders and members with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to thrive. CHF BC maintains an extensive online library of best-practice tools and templates, including its widely valued Model Rules 2.0, sample policies, Privacy Act tools, and a comprehensive Guide to the Co-op Act, ensuring members have ready access to practical guidance for day-to-day operations. Through its group buying program, CHF BC leverages collective purchasing power to secure superior pricing, quality, and service across a broad range of goods and services essential to co-op operations, streamlining procurement and reducing administrative burden for individual members. The organization also provides strategic planning and asset management support, helping member co-ops understand their buildings and assets while developing long-term care and sustainability strategies, drawing on collaborative experience with more than 120 housing co-ops across the province. By fostering co-operative living, CHF BC enables individuals and families of all ages, incomes, and backgrounds to access safe, affordable housing within strong, healthy communities where residents have meaningful say in their living environment and enjoy the security and stability that co-operative ownership provides.Read More
