The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) of the American Chemistry Council serves as the voice of the polyurethanes industry in North America, promoting sustainable development and coordinating with polyurethane trade associations across the globe. Its members include the nation's leading producers and distributors of chemicals and equipment... used to make polyurethane and manufacture polyurethane products. CPI's member companies supply polyurethane raw materials and additives; manufacture polyurethanes; produce machinery used in the manufacture or processing of polyurethanes; or engage in the business of applying polyurethane products in end-use applications. CPI offers a variety of environmental, health and safety programs because polyurethane raw material suppliers and manufacturers strive to be leaders in product stewardship. CPI helps build a stronger foundation for sustainable polyurethane chemistry by advocating for science-based research, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability, fostering product health and safety, and supporting outreach and education. CPI's critical issues include combustibility; environment, health and safety; recycling and recovery; building codes and standards; energy and climate change; chemical regulation; and transportation. The polyurethanes industry supports research and initiatives that serve its communities and customers. The business of polyurethanes is a $20 billion enterprise and a key element of the U.S. economy. The industry directly employs more than 202,000 Americans and operates in more than 950 locations in the United States. A major job creator in the United States, each job in the polyurethanes industry yields four more jobs indirectly. CPI and its predecessor organizations have represented the American polyurethanes industry for more than half a century.
