Our organization, currently consisting of a twice-monthly newspaper founded in 1999, a website and social media, serves multiple duties as part of the pastoral communications ministry of the archdiocese: A witness to the signs of the times through timely, credible news reporting and presentation; a source of inspiration, information and fellowship... to help nourish Catholics in their faith; a space of faithful encounter in a living church made up of all the baptized; an indirect pastoral ministry serving colleagues in direct ministry by helping them communicate their work; a vehicle for the archbishop to address the people of the archdiocese. CSF also provides advertising, production and administrative support for the archdiocese's Official Directory and Spanish newspaper, San Francisco Catolico. In our continuing effort to provide these communications in the most effective manner, we anticipate exciting and major changes in our channels in the coming months. What will not change is our dedication to keeping our readers and followers informed and knowledgeable. As we enter our third decade, we're inspired by Catholic journalists' patron St. Francis de Sales to "be all you are and be that well. And we hold close Pope Francis' call to practice a "journalism of peace" to serve the communion without sentimentalism or looking away from serious problems, and "to contribute to our shared commitment to stemming the spread of fake news and to rediscover the dignity of journalism and the personal responsibility of journalists to communicate the truth. Catholic San Francisco is the winner of multiple U.S-Canada Catholic press awards, including 2018 Editor of the Year and 2019 General Excellence, second place, among diocesan newspapers in our peer group. A note on stewardship: CSF's program costs and a portion of employee benefits are self-financed 85-15 by advertising and other business sources, primarily donations from readers but also paid subscriptions and sales of a premium version of the Official Directory.
