Founded in 1997, Cathay Industrial Biotech Ltd. is the first and only industrial biotechnology company that has realized commercial-scale production of revolutionary bio-technologies including long chain dibasic acids (LCDA), bio-based butanol, bio-based DN5(1,5-pentanediamine) and bio-based polyamide. Cathay focuses on the independent R&D of econo... mically viable industrial bio-technology solutions, and produces with industrial biotechnology the special chemical materials that could only or even not be obtained withchemical methods, but with higher performance and lower cost. Cathay currently owns two production sites and one R&D center in China. The R&D center islocated in Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, which was one of the first high-tech R&D institutes that came to Zhangjiang. Cathay's Shandong Jinxiang production site was commercialized in 2002 with annual production capacity of 40,000 tons. As Cathay's newly-invested site, the total investment of Xinjiang Wusu production site'sinitial phase is over $ 400 million, which will generate an annual output of 50,000 tons of bio-based DN5, 100,000 tons of bio-based polyamide and 30,000 tons of LCDA.
