Until now, sinus sufferers have had to endure multiple rounds of antibiotics and/or major sinus surgery to alleviate their symptoms. Now there is an in-office, minimally invasive procedure called Balloon Sinuplasty, which for most patients has replaced the need to undergo traditional sinus surgery and/or multiple rounds of antibiotics. At Carolina Sinus Center we perform a thorough diagnostic evaluation to identify the underlying cause and severity of our patients' sinus problems. This evaluation often includes nasal endoscopies, an allergy evaluation and CT scan of the sinuses. From the information obtained from this evaluation, treatment recommendations are made to not only alleviate symptoms but to treat the underlying cause. Balloon sinus dilation (Balloon Sinuplasty) is a procedure that uses small balloons to reestablish the openings of the sinuses to allow adequate ventilation and restore natural drainage of the sinuses. Initially, the procedure was performed in hospitals and outpatient surgery centers. However, since the procedure is minimally invasive, well tolerated in the office and does not require general anesthesia, Dr. Williams has transitioned the procedure to her office.
