As a house of brands, Carnival Australia comprises seven leading cruise lines. Prior to the worldwide pause in cruise operations, three of the company's cruise lines P&O Cruises Australia, Princess Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line were the only companies to base ships from Australia year round. Through the company's local fleets, Carnival Australia, over more than a decade, played a key role in driving the growth of the Australian cruise industry to record highs. The pause has also served as a reminder of the economic contribution cruising made to the national, regional and local economies. Prior to the operational pause, cruising contributed more than $5 billion in economic activity annually and supported nearly 20,000 jobs. At 5.7 per cent, Australia had the highest market penetration by population in the world. Seven out of ten Australians who took an ocean cruise sailed on ships operated by Carnival Australia brands. Across the Tasman, Carnival Australia accounted for more than 75 per cent of New Zealands cruise passengers. The company remain optimistic that cruising in Australia and New Zealand will resume allowing Carnival Australia to play a key role in the rebuilding of the industry and the revitalisation of cruisings growth story. Importantly, the company look forward to again supporting the company's travel sector partners including travel agents, fresh produce suppliers, tour operators, entertainers and the communities that the company's ships visit, especially in the Pacific Islands.
