Caritas Egypt was established during the Arab-Israel conflict in 1967 as an "Emergency Aid-sector" providing Egyptians with essential needs. The government's appreciation for Caritas active humanitarian contribution enabled it to be officially registered as a non-governmental organization at the ministry of social affairs. Its status allows it to c... ooperate with several cultural, social, and developmental organizations as well as state institutes. As an international organization, Caritas embraces all regardless of creed, race, ethnicity or gender. It fights poverty, exclusion, intolerance and discrimination. Caritas empowers people to participate fully in all matters affecting their lives and seeks to make them subjects of the ir own development and agents of change. In addition to its headquarters in Cairo, Caritas has five other branch offices in the governorates of Alexandria, Minia, Assiut, Sohag and Qena. Caritas Egypt is registered with the Ministry of Social Affairs under No. 1150 of 1967.
