Can-Am Crown's mission is to preserve and promote the sport of dog sledding by producing races of professional caliber while adopting the highest standards of human safety and animal welfare. In this way, the sled dog may always be allowed to fulfill its instinctive drive and know true contentment, and the musher may display discipline, personal re... sponsibility, cooperation and leadership. The audience for professional sled dog racing is growing nationally because of the value that traditional activities have in modern times. By encouraging this traditional activity, we establish a link with those virtues of the past which may help to secure our future. Dog sledding still flourishes as a sport and recreational activity in the north. It represents a healthful, non-mechanized way to experience and enjoy the outdoors. It provides us with perspective during changing times, and it requires the virtues of persistence and cooperation which we should instill in our children. The Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Races help to dispel the myth that events of this type are not for spectators. While protecting the wishes and privacy of cooperating landowners, we optimize accessibility and visibility of the races for the enjoyment of our spectators.
