About Camerata Singers

In the fall of 1975, conductor David Seitz and singing friends, sensing an opportunity for a new community chamber choir, formed the thirty-voice Camerata Singers of Elkhart (IN) with its first performance at Elkhart Memorial High School in December of that year. The group obtained not-for-profit status in 1977. Christine Larson Seitz served as Cameratas accompanist since 1978. David Seitz retired as music director in 2010, and since then Scott Hochstetler has filled that position. In 2003, Camerata Singers reorganized as St. Joseph Valley Camerata, becoming a professional choir. In 2021, the group returned to its roots, becoming once again, Camerata Singers. Highlights from its history includes an invited performance at the 2008 ACDA regional convention in Grand Rapids and a performance of Thomas Talliss 40-voice Spem in Alium in 2014 to celebrate the groups 40th anniversary. Seeking to make participation by busy qualified singers manageable, approximately ten rehearsals are scheduledRead more
