About Cambridge Energy

Cambridge Energy is part of Cambridge Energy Group Ltd. It was set up by Jason Palmer, Mark Skipper and Ian Cooper. All three are passionate about saving energy and cutting climate change emissions. We have worked for the Government's Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, BEIS, on a string of research, consultancy and innovation contracts. We have tackled projects ranging from gauging the cost of energy efficient upgrades on homes to quality assuring the Government's Global Calculator for greenhouse gas emissions. We have also worked for product manufacturers and Innovate UK (the country's innovation agency) on low-energy buildings. Jason has an Engineering Doctorate in Environmental Technology. He has been working on energy research since 1998, with active interests in environmental and sustainability research, alongside innovation. Much of his recent work has focused on energy use in housing, particularly modelling using the Cambridge Housing Model and DEMScot, and physical measurements in housing. He also helped to build the Government's energy systems model UK TIMES, and the new 2100 Calculator which will estimate UK greenhouse gas emissions under different policy scenarios through to 2100. He sits on Ofgem's Technical Assessment Panel for Innovations under ECO (the Energy Company Obligation). Mark is an IT specialist, and has a PhD on Formal Models for Software Development. He has worked on energy and buildings since 2008, and he did most of the development work on DEMScot 2 - the housing energy model for Scotland. He and Jason together led Cambridge Energy's work for the Government rebuilding UK TIMES in 2016. Mark concentrates on finding technological solutions to real-world energy problems. Ian trained as an architect, but has spent most of his 40-year working life as a consultant. His expertise lies in designing, managing, monitoring and assessing the impact of research, especially work relating to the built environment and sustainable development.
