Founded in 2003 by two architects and a metal fabricator; Jonathan Taylor, Stephen Lynch, and Michael Conlon partnered to form a design studio and fabrication shop that brings an architect's sensibility to custom fabrication. Caliper Studio has since grown into a team of over 30 highly skilled designers, detailers, fabricators, and installers deliv... ering feature elements of high profile construction projects across New York City. As creative people and builders we understand the value of collaboration for a successful project. We bring our unique set of skills to help ensure that coordination between our work and adjacent trades is considered and details follow design intent. We are driven by new challenges and we embrace new technology. Our specialty is in metals but we welcome work in other materials and have experience with integrating millwork and glass into our projects. We take pride in our work and in delivering world-class projects for our clients. We begin every fabrication project with a rigorous collaborative design process during which each detail is developed and reviewed for design intent, structural performance, budget, and constructability. The result of this intensive detailing phase is a 3D parametric model of the proposed design. The model is used to communicate with the client and design team to confirm that all parties agree about exactly what will be built. The model is then used to generate shop drawings and part files for CNC cutting. For many projects Caliper performs a 3D scan of the job site as part of the site survey. This process captures the irregularities of the site condition and allows for adjustments to be made in the shop prior to arriving on site with finished assemblies.
