U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal agency serving as the second largest revenue collecting source in the U.S. government, responsible for both trade facilitation and revenue protection across American ports of entry. CBP processed $2.39 trillion in imports, equating to 33.2 million entries and more than 28.5 million imported carg... o containers, while collecting approximately $40.1 billion in duties, taxes, and other fees, including more than $34.8 billion in duties. The agency's core mission encompasses streamlining and promoting frictionless trade while maintaining rigorous enforcement standards to protect U.S. economic and security interests. CBP's trade enforcement operations are comprehensive and data-driven, with the agency launching the e-Allegation web portal to enable the trade community and federal agencies to submit allegations regarding forced labor, evasion of antidumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD), and intellectual property rights (IPR) violations. Through this portal and collaborative efforts with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), CBP has demonstrated measurable enforcement impact: IPR violation seizures increased 8 percent to 34,143 shipments, while CBP and ICE jointly seized 21 shipments valued at more than $48.7 million for AD/CVD violations and detained 26 additional shipments valued at $1.6 million under Withhold Release Orders. The agency has initiated 14 investigations based on allegations reviewed by trade specialists and subject matter matter experts. Recognizing the evolving trade landscape and the importance of supporting small and microbusinesses, CBP established the E-Commerce and Small Business Branch within the Office of Trade, positioning the agency to address emerging challenges in e-commerce logistics and facilitate growth for smaller importers and exporters.
