Burnie High School is a caring, supportive and innovative learning environment that allows its students to achieve success and be their very best, enabling them to become active citizens of the 21st century. A major redevelopment to school facilities in 2010/11 has resulted in a new student café, state of the art performing arts facilities, new cat... ering facilities, and new classroom accommodation for students in years 9 and 10. Burnie High School's values based expectations is reflected in the motto, Best Effort, Honest and Fair and Safe and Secure. The school currently caters for a student population of 506 students. It offers a wide variety of learning experiences for students including traditional academic programs, a range of highly regarded alternative learning programs and extensive extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities include MDT and Textiles master classes, Gallery 58, sporting teams, drama and musical groups and a biennial musical production. In recent years the school has gained a reputation for innovation in the delivery of alternative learning programs including the Traineeship and Apprenticeship Program (TAPP), Newstart, Trade-Up, Farm Enterprise and Happy Room.
