The Burdwan University offers a wide variety of courses at all levels in the subjects that include science, arts, commerce, law, environmental sciences, business administration and engineering. There are four academic councils to control the administration and education in all these varied fields. There are undergraduate and post graduate programs in all conceivable subjects, the most popular ones being the B.Tech courses in various fields of engineering. Additionally the University also runs a host of research programs under its higher studies scheme. The department of Business Administration of the Burdwan University has also carved out a place of pride for itself in the eastern part of the country. The university has a fully developed department of distance education that provides remote learning to students not only in West Bengal but throughout the country in courses up to M.A and M.Com levels along with post graduate professional courses. The various courses of the department of distance education are in great demand all over the state as they provide an unique opportunity to achieve higher qualifications while continuing the present profession. The campus houses a number of modern training facilities that include the instrumentation centre that houses a liquid nitrogen plant and an electron microscope to its credit, a state of the art computer centre and a hugely popular central library which has always been the hub of all student activity.
