Building a Bookshelf

We accept both new and gently used books. We serve children from birth through highschool, so we accept just about any book written for children and young adults. e also accept grown-up books, but we sell those to a book reseller and use the money to purchase children's books. Are there any books you don't accept? Books with torn pages, missing cov... ers, or coloring books that have already been colored in.Also, we don't accept encyclopedia sets. e know it seems like a waste, but the schools just don't have a use for them now that we've got the internet. Video killed the radio star and the internet killed the encyclopedia set. How do I get my books to you? Get in touch and we will arrange a pick-up. e are a Kansas City based organization. f you are outside of Kansas City, send us an email and we'll see if we can help you find a good place to donate the books. Who do you give the books to? We have partnerships with organizations throughout Kansas City. e are constantly building new relationships, so the list is always growing.However, some of our partner organizations are: Kansas Children's Services League, the Osawatomie School District, the G.R.A.D.E Foundation, Children's Mercy Hospital, Olathe Head Start, KCMO School District, Johnson County Christmas Bureau, and Ozanam. How do you decide who gets books? We have an application process that recipient organizations complete.Part of the application process is to determine whether the children they serve qualify as at-risk children. here is a huge discrepancy in the number of books owned by children of middle income families and children of low income families. s a result, we want to ensure that our books are being used to narrow that gap. lthough we don't screen the children directly, we rely on the organizations that we partner with to ensure that the population of children receiving the books fall into the at-risk category.
