Bridget Fox

Bridget Fox made history in 2005, when as the Lib Dem candidate in Islington South & Finsbury, she made converted a previously safe Labour seat into a marginal: Labour's majority is now just 484 votes. Bridget is from a family of North Londoners. Her grandmother was born in Upper Holloway and her grandfather lived and worked on City Road, until his... shop was bombed in WWII. Bridget was born & grew up in Amersham on the edge of London. She attended local state schools and won a scholarship to read History & French at Balliol College, Oxford, where she joined the Liberal Party in 1984. She first came to Islington in 1988 to train as a librarian at the Polytechnic of North London. She has since worked as a librarian and manager in both the public & private sectors. Bridget has lived in Islington since 1992, first in Highbury, then for many years in Barnsbury and now lives just off Essex Road. Like many Islington residents, she is a council leaseholder. Bridget has a long record of public service in Islington. She was a Councillor for Barnsbury Ward 1998-2006, serving as Deputy Leader of the Council and the Executive Member for Sustainability. Leading successful projects increasing the recycling rates in Islington threefold, improving energy efficiency & use of green energy, renewing Islington's streetlights and cleaning up the borough, Bridget was part of the team that has reduced Islington's council tax from the highest in London under Labour to below the London average. Passionate about transforming Islington for the better, Bridget is active in many groups. She is a former member of the City Fringe and Kings Cross Regeneration Partnerships, helping bring new jobs and better housing for local people. A former Community Health Council member, Bridget sat on Islington's Local Strategic Partnership and Islington Health Partnership Board, where she campaigned to protect the environment and promote healthier lifestyles.
