The Boston Digital Bridge Foundation (BDBF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the digital divide in underserved Boston communities through technology training, computer equipment distribution, and educational programming. Founded in response to a documented gap between Boston Public Schools' technology infrastructure and contemporar... y business-world technological capabilities, BDBF has established itself as a catalyst for educational equity and family engagement across the city. The organization achieved a landmark milestone by raising $225 million to network all 135 Boston Public School buildings and 26 public libraries, making Boston the nation's first fully networked urban school system. This infrastructure investment was complemented by comprehensive teacher training, with virtually all BPS educators completing 50 hours of technology instruction within two years, while the student-to-computer ratio improved dramatically from 1:70 to 1:4. Recognizing that sustainable educational change requires family involvement, BDBF launched the Technology Goes Home program in 1999 through partnerships with 65 community organizations across Boston, designed to train young people and their families in technology use together. The program expanded into Boston Public Schools in 2002 and remains the only structured initiative within BPS that specifically focuses on encouraging and expanding parental involvement in children's education. By bringing students and families into schools for collaborative technology training with BPS teachers, Technology Goes Home creates a dual-benefit model where parents gain life-changing digital skills while simultaneously becoming more engaged in their children's academic progress and school operations.
