Should I hire this person? Is the product ready for release? Is my project on track or has it gone off the rails? If we took the time to fully think through every... thing we would be paralyzed with inaction. That is why our brains developed shortcuts, called cognitive biases, to help us make decisions quickly. We look for patterns, things that seem familiar, or things that seem similar to what we've seen before. And then we make the decision quickly based on that. But making a quick decision is not necessarily the same as making a good decision, especially when the stakes are high and the circumstances are unfamiliar.
