They were very sweet and always wanted Dads attention when I came home. However, after their school gave each of them a MacBook, the... y simply disappeared behind their screens. Five years ago, my third child Jasper was born. I started to ask the question what has technology done to our children? As much as we all claim to love our children and wish to provide the best environment for them to grow, we seemed to be obsessed with inventing things that took them away from us and drive them to waste time on dopamine fueled trivial pleasure. I was convinced that I must not be alone in feeling this way. I therefore left KPCB and started Beyond Screen. It took us 5 years to invent Beyond Tablet. With the objective of using this device for my own child and the children of our colleagues, we strived and exhausted our limits to design and make Beyond Tablet with the safest choices of materials and technologies that we could implement, and to create learning activities that are beyond screens and beyond traditional textbooks and manipulatives. As Silicon Valley and the broader world start to question the impact of screens on our childrens cognitive development, we are proud to present Beyond Tablet as a solution.
