BETI Foundation

The BETI Foundation was established in March 2000 as a part of Project on Girls' Education being coordinated by the Academy for Educational Development, AED Washington, with financial support from the Global WID-TECH (Women In Development Technology) Funds of USAID. Through a task order to the WID-TECH/AED Project, USAID/India requested that a Girl... s' Education Resource Center with a statewide outreach be created in Lucknow to provide innovative and sustained advocacy for girls' education in Uttar Pradesh (UP). In a Strategic Planning Forum in July 1999, a wide spectrum of educational stakeholders in Lucknow, viz., Government, NGOs, donor agencies, autonomous bodies, media representatives, and individual educationists, endorsed the importance of a State Level Resource Center and carved out the scope, focus and work interventions of the Centre, thus defining a local mandate for setting up the Better Education Through Education (BETI) Foundation. The formal launch of BETI on 9th May 2000 was preceded by a month long series of intensive activities, commencing on the 6th of April, centered on promoting girls' education, through a collaborative partnership of all relevant stakeholders including children themselves.
