At Beritaz, our philosophy is 'to care for our residents the way we would want our loved ones cared for' - something we've been doing for over 10 years at Springkell House, Ashton Manor, Chestnut Court and Robertson Nursing Home based in Surrey, Hampshire and Dorset. The key to approach is our highly trained, experienced team of nurses and carers.... Friendly and cheerful, yet always totally professional, our staff have a deep understanding of dementia and its effects and base their care on signs and symptoms they observe day to day. Crucially, they focus on helping residents maintain as much independence as possible, as research shows that simply doing everything for them actually reduces dementia patients' capacity even further and faster. Research also suggests that maintaining a person's physical and mental agility can help slow the progress of dementia. So, some of our Beritaz Care homes have their own Activities Co-ordinator, who works with residents and their families to provide activities to stimulate mind and body. The aim is always to help the person retain their physical and mental capacity - and enhance it wherever possible. Environment is an extremely important factor in both how dementia progresses and the individual's quality of life. Our homes are carefully designed with special signage and plenty of space so residents can wander freely and safely. All our homes have spacious, secure grounds, with lots of scented and colourful plants to soothe and refresh. We believe we can provide the best possible care only by working closely with family and friends. Our partnership approach includes offering training to help the residents and families learn more about dementia, appreciate what their loved one is going through and better understand what can sometimes be strange or distressing moods and behaviour.
