State Department of Ecology's Environmental Award!! Bear Creek Headwaters is dedicated to protecting, preserving, and improving habitat and water quality in the headwaters of the Bear Creek watershed. The Bear Creek watershed is part of the Northern Lake Washington Tributaries. **Check out our NEWS BULLETIN page, updated now with exciting news!!**... diligently in this last year to move the 30 acre Hooven Bog property from private development ownership into public conservation. The 24.5 acre bog in South Snohomish County is a category 1 wetland, which is unique in the state as surveyed by the DNR Natural Heritage Program in spring 2013. The bog provides high ecological functions in the headwaters of Bear Creek and supplies water to State significant salmon runs in the Sammamish River watershed. Members of Snohomish County Council and Executive Office, WRIA 8 Salmon Recovery Fund Board, Sno-King Watershed Council and many private organizations have supported the effort to move the property into public conservation. This property is unique in many ways, not least of which is the forest proximity to the Sphagnum Peat bog which filters the water in this important headwaters to salmon spawning creeks.Read More
