About Baryames Cleaners
Art Baryames, a Greek immigrant from a village near Sparta, founded Baryames Cleaners in 1922 as a newspaper, shoe shine, hat-cleaning stand. The business was located in Downtown Lansing on Washington Avenue near the corner of Washtenaw. In the 1930's, garment pressing was added so a gentleman could come in and get his shoes shined, hat cleaned and suit pressed all at the same time. The company grew rapidly in the 50's, 60's and 70's under the leadership of Art's son, Chuck Baryames by emphasizing exceptional quality and service. Today the company is led by Chuck's son Art Baryames, and is without question Mid-Michigan's leader in dry cleaning.
