The calling of the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of Gods love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission. It does this through: Worship The Church exists to increase awareness of God's presence and to celebrate God's love. Learning and Caring The Church exists to help people to grow and learn as Christians, thr... ough mutual support and care. Service The Church exists to be a good neighbour to people in need and to challenge injustice. Evangelism The Church exists to make more followers of Jesus Christ. Barnes Methodist Church affirms its commitment to this calling and embraces its challenge. In particular, it seeks to: be a welcoming and affirming church, irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, nationality or sexuality; be a place where the scriptures are at the heart of our worship, inspiring challenging preaching; use its premises to serve its mission and provide a community hub; are for one another in Christs name; continue to serve the Kingdom of God through a wholehearted commitment to ecumenism and the work of Churches Together locally; and affirm its commitment to caring for those in need, and to social justice, by continuing to facilitate the Glass Door winter homeless shelter, held at the church every Saturday night for the last twelve years. In the coming year, as part of its commitment to this Mission Statement, the Church will specifically endeavour to: review and renew our pastoral care for one another; use our building project as an opportunity to enhance our premises for mission and service; enhance our prayer life as a church; improve the way we publicise our activities; and actively seek to engage in mission.
