The Automated Builders Consortium was formed in 1993 after the devastating riots that rocked south central Los Angeles. After witnessing the aftermath of that tragedy a group got together to determine how best to help reinvigorate America's inner cities. It was determined the use of factory building technologies and products, via a free-enterprise... entrepreneurial system was the way to proceed. A select group of industry executives met in Chicago, IL to discuss the situation and as a result the ABC was borne. Our aim is to provide jobs, job training and increase the supply of quality affordable housing where it is needed most - in America's under-served urban and rural neighborhoods. ABC offers experience, expertise, guidance and networking opportunities aimed at establishing inner city enterprises which we are sure will help to build a better world - one house and one community at a time! Factory-built housing is increasingly common along the roadside in rural areas. ABC believes that high quality modular, panelized and HUD-code housing also belongs in cities, suburbs, rural markets and other countries - especially where affordable housing is badly needed. ABC specifically promotes the use of factory produced homes, components and materials in the often-overlooked inner city market. Our members are establishing housing factories in inner cities with which they are increasing the supply of high quality affordable housing while at the same time helping to reduce unemployment and other social ills. ABC members are also winning zoning and other concessions from local governments to establish affordable housing in the distressed areas. There is growing demand for factory-built housing in the overseas market.
