About AutoandRoad

Being a car buff, even before writing about cars, Varol McKars (aka Varol Karslioglu) has been collecting model cars since 2010. His interest and emotional connection with the automobile began in his early childhood: His father was one of the early dolmush drivers of Istanbul, Turkey. A dolmush (meaning it is full) is a collective taxi that shuttles on a predefined route once the vehicle is full at the departure point. Each passenger pays a predefined fare. Those were the times nobody even imagined something like Uber. His short story; The American Dolmush is based on his childhood and youth memories won the short story contest of the the Ankara Library of Toronto, a Canadian-Turkish Cultural Association. He has been writing about cars and the automobile industry since the 1990s and has visited major automobile museums in Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Varols first article on cars was published in 1998. From October 2009 to early 2014, McKars was the weekly columnist and North American reporter of Otohaber, (www.otohaber.com.tr) once the oldest weekly car magazine (monthly since April 2014) in Turkey. He also volunteered as an editor and columnist for Telve, (telve.turkishcanada.org), a community magazine in Canada and has written for websites and blogs.
