UVA is the least powerful wavelength band of UV radiation. It acts primarily to cause the melanin pigments in the skin to darken and has limited power to cause sunburn. UVB is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that produces Vitamin D and is the most associated with sunburn with overexposure. It is more powerful than UVA and stimulates your skin to produce additional melanin which in turn can allow you to tan at a higher level.
