Atlantic Shellfish Products Inc. was founded by Russell Dockendorff Jr. He was building on his reputation as a pioneer, along with his father (Russell Sr.), in Prince Edward Island's mussel industry. When they sold their lobster fleets in 1979 to get into the mussel industry everyone thought they were crazy. Through their hard work and innovative a... pproach they were highly instrumental in building the 'Island Blue' mussel into the world renowned phenomenon it is today. Today the mussel company is known as the PEI Mussel King and is managed by Russell Jr.'s siblings - Esther, Donna, and Scott. Atlantic Shellfish started in 1997 by purchasing, grading and selling wild caught oysters and quahogs. Today, Atlantic Shellfish is still purchasing, grading and selling wild caught oysters but has also expanded into cultivated oysters. Management is transitioning from Russell Jr. to his daughter Cindy and son Jacob. We cultivate our own brands of oysters both on the bottom and using off-bottom technology. We operate by maintaining one holding lease, nine bottom cultivation leases, and three off-bottom cultivation leases on PEI. We also develop partnerships with other growers in PEI, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. Atlantic Shellfish holds the rights to further expansion sites in PEI and Nova Scotia both on and off bottom. Atlantic Shellfish reliably supplies a consistent top quality product to a continually developing customer base that has come to appreciate excellent service. Our association with PEI Mussel King compliments oyster and quahog sales with top quality fresh and cooked frozen mussels.
