Atama Plantation

Atama Plantation SARL (Atama), an indirect subsidiary of Wah Seong Corporation Berhad (Wah Seong), a company listed on Bursa Malaysia, was granted a 60-year agriculture concession by the Government of the Republic of Congo to develop 470,000 hectares of federal land into oil palm plantation and industrial complexes. The overall concession is situat... ed in the Cuvette Province and the Sangha Province. Based on feasibility studies conducted, of the 470,000 hectares of land granted, about 180,000 hectares can be classified as "Suitable to Highly Suitable" for the cultivation of oil palm. The planting programme is envisaged to be carried out in 10 phases over a 15-year period and the first phase commenced in 2013. Atama will be amongst the first to venture upstream in the oil palm plantation sector in the Republic of Congo. The company is committed to developing oil palm as a food crop and providing employment opportunities for the Congolese people. In doing so, Atama will also be contributing towards the national economic development of the Republic of Congo while making every effort to employ sustainable agricultural practices which will help preserve the biodiversity of the land by protecting the surrounding environment and wildlife. As an extension of Atama's plans for conservation and sustainability, oil palm biomass will be used as a source of renewable energy and recycled to produce natural fertiliser. Additionally, by embarking on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, Atama hopes to engage the needs of the Congolese people by contributing to their educational, medical and housing requirements in the area where we operate.
