While we're on the subject of community involvement and support, to answer a question we get a lot... support your pet projects if you feel a need to give. It doesn't matter who you give to. Or why. We find that most clients don't give because of a tax benefit. They give because they believe in the mission of the organization and they want to make a difference. (That doesn't mean you shouldn't ask for a receipt, though!)
