Asc-Meyners

ASC Meat Imports was founded in 1971 by Richard Atkinson venturing out on his own after a career with the global giant Tupman Thurlow. Mr. Atkinson came to NYC with his family in 1960 from Great Britain. He was handed the southeastern United States as a territory to sell the new imported beef. He was from the beach in Sussex, U.K. and grew to love... the beach in south Florida. He built a warehouse to add to the growing demand for storage space in the then small city of Miami. ASC imported beef from Australia, New Zealand and also a new supplier Central America. His ingenuity during the implementation of import quotas catapulted ASC into a larger, higher volume importing firm. That success and Mr. Atkinson's involvement with the Meat Importers Council, where he served as Chairman, has helped to make ASC one of the most well-known names in the industry. After completing his career as an Army officer, Bill Powell studied at the University of Georgia and received a Master's degree in Food Science. Armed with that degree he was hired on at Meyners and Robinson in Atlanta. He fondly remembers thinking that the $10,000 annual salary was "all the money he'd ever need." He laughs when telling that story today. Bill became the owner of Meyners and Robinson in 1984 and brought the office from Atlanta to his beloved Ponte Vedra Beach. The two "brothers-in-law" decided to merge the two companies in 1996. ASC Meat Imports relocated from south Florida to Ponte Vedra Florida (because everything ever said about it is true. All the good all the bad) and brought the expertise of their decades of experience to the Northern Florida beach.
