The Area Transportation Authority of North Central Pennsylvania (ATA) is the first regional, rural transportation authority in Pennsylvania, and among the first of its kind in the United States. The ATA system is an extensive network of routes in a variety of configurations that reach into every corner of the six counties. Over its 35 year history ATA has planned and implemented needed transportation services that are open to all the residents of north central Pennsylvania. ATA's history and its continuing mission is to innovate. ATA leads the nation in transportation technology and information systems. New approaches in route design, service offerings and vehicles designed for rural service, have made public transit affordable and accessible. Yet another mission of ATA is to bring together any and all transportation projects in a single, planned and coordinated effort. The Authority has contracts and working-relationships with a multitude of government and non-profit service agencies to provide transit for clients efficiently and safely.
