Arcop Architecture

In 1955, a group of six young Montreal architects of diverse backgrounds entered a joint submission in a competition for the design of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, B.C. Their submission was selected, and they decided to formalize their association as a partnership. The partnership, at that time named for the partners Affleck, Desbarats... , Dimakopoulos, Lebensold, Michaud and Sise, Architects in Co-Partnership was the genesis of ARCOP Associates, and practices today, sixty years later as Arcop Architecture Inc. The founders of the firm are very representative of the Canadian ethnic mosaic. Its strength since inception, has been to reflect upon the local architectural and social cultures of its very diverse clientle with a design quality which pays homage to both. The success of the firm over these five decades is, without doubt attributable to its unflagging efforts, based on listening, exchange of ideas, cooperation and creation. Team effort is the basic philosophy of ARCOP, hence the derivation of its name, an acronym for ARchitects in CO- Partnership, officially adopted in 1970. * For over 60 years, the Arcop name has been synonymous with expertise and passion for creating iconic projects in our community and beyond. Our new firm has been recently shaped by the legacies of 6 important and established architectural offices located throughout Canada and in which Arcop Architecture is a key player.
