Animas Credit Union

Animas Credit Union is a full-service, not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution. Unlike profit-driven banks that benefit only a small number of stockholders, the company return excess earnings to all of the company's members in the form of lower interest rates for loans and higher yields on savings and investment accounts. The Credit Unio... n was first chartered in 1956 by El Paso Natural Gas employees and their families. In 1960, the Credit Union changed its name to Animas Credit Union. With this name change came amendments to the company's bylaws that allowed individuals who reside or work in San Juan County, New Mexico and members of their families to join. From 1956 to 1982, the Credit Union operated out of the original El Paso Natural Gas Company building in Farmington, New Mexico. The Credit Union was run by one person on a part-time basis until January 31, 1961, at which time a part-time employee was hired to help keep up with day-to-day operations. In June of 1982, the Credit Union opened its own independent facility. In 1986, the Credit Union doubled in size to accommodate rapid growth. In 1995, the company's branch location was opened at 3850 East Main Street and in 2003, the company's beautiful new home office opened at 2101 East 20th Street. A full-service Commercial Services Department was added in 2007 to accommodate the needs of small businesses in San Juan County. At the end of 2009, the 1,900 members of Totah Credit Union merged with Animas Credit Union. In 2010 the company opened a branch inside Farmers Market in Bloomfield. Today the company service more than 17,000 members throughout San Juan County.
