Amoco

Amoco is a brand of fuel stations operating in the United States and owned by British conglomerate BP since 1998. Originally founded as the American Oil Company in Baltimore in 1910 by Louis Blaustein and his son Jacob and incorporated in 1922, Amoco became part of Standard Oil Company of Indiana in 1925 when Standard Oil acquired Pan American Petr... oleum. The company was officially known as Standard Oil Company of Indiana until 1985 when it became Amoco Corporation, headquartered in Chicago. Amoco was a major American chemical and oil company active in petroleum exploration and production, petroleum refining and marketing, natural gas production, and chemical products including polymers, fabrics, fibers, and chemical feedstocks. The company pioneered innovations in the modern petroleum industry including the gasoline tanker truck, the drive-through filling station, and lead-free high-octane gasoline marketed decades before environmental regulations mandated the phase-out of leaded fuel. In August 1998, Amoco merged with British Petroleum in what was then the world's largest industrial merger, with BP acquiring Amoco for $43.2 billion. Following the merger, BP initially retired the Amoco brand in favor of BP branding across all locations.
