Amhara Development Association

It is a great honor to serve as your Chair of the Amhara Development Association and work alongside highly talented, motivated, engaged individuals, and share my thoughts. To pull ourselves of poverty and embark on a journey of triumph, self-reliance, we need the tools of preparedness, foresight, and vision. When the Amhara Development Association... (ADA) was established in 1992 the socio-economic situation of the Amhara Region and its people was in a dire situation. The three decades of misguided development and administrative policies had resulted in war, poverty and backwardness that led the country down a dead end. The extent of the devastation was not limited to ageing bridges, schools and clinics but also on the total infrastructure of many cities in different regions of the country. Hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life bore the brunt of the poverty, hunger, forced migration, psychological dysfunction, loss of limbs and death. This desperate socio-economic situation and the dire needs in education and healthcare made the need for a regional development association like ADA a great necessity. The momentous development challenges of the Amhara Region and its people could only be tacked by the collective efforts of the people, government as well as various stakeholders of the Region's development undertakings. What was required was a sense of volunteerism, sacrifice and confidence to bring our collective efforts to bear upon the key problems confronting the Region. We also believed that religious and political beliefs, and differences in personal wealth should never prevent us from working together for the good of all of the region's peoples.
