American Rivers

Highly Engaged Employees

American Rivers Inc operates as a nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection, restoration, and conservation of river systems and freshwater resources. The organization works across multiple dimensions of river stewardship, combining scientific research, policy advocacy, and on-the-ground restoration efforts to address the complex challenges... facing aquatic ecosystems. The organization's work encompasses three interconnected focus areas. First, it protects wild rivers that remain relatively undisturbed, working to preserve their ecological integrity and the biodiversity they support. Second, it undertakes restoration initiatives on rivers that have experienced degradation from human activity, implementing projects designed to recover ecological function and improve water quality. Third, it pursues broader conservation strategies aimed at safeguarding clean water resources for both environmental and human needs. American Rivers engages in collaborative partnerships with government agencies, academic institutions, and community organizations to advance its mission. The organization employs evidence-based approaches to river management, drawing on scientific expertise to inform policy recommendations and restoration methodologies. Its work addresses issues including dam removal, water quality improvement, habitat restoration, and sustainable water management practices.Read More
