Alongside You

We are a small but energetic team in our office. Our Service Director has been working with families living with HIV since 1998 and established the work of Alongside You in East London. She is passionate about making a valuable impact in the lives of those struggling with HIV. Our Office Coordinator keeps everything organised and on track. We equip... and enable Christians to make a compassionate response to the needs of families living with HIV in our community, by training volunteers and speaking in churches to promote understanding and help counter stigma. Our volunteers help to relieve family pressure through time out for the children and parents, counter isolation and low self esteem through building supportive relationships, and strengthening resilience through long term support and opportunities. Our work in East London started in 2004. An east London branch of 'Grandma's Charity' was established in response to the needs of a large number of families living with HIV in the area and the commitment of a small group of volunteers. The work continued under a separate charitable identity and took the new name of 'Alongside You' in 2009. The local presence enabled us to work more effectively with churches in the area and recruit and train volunteers to get alongside families waiting for support. Alongside You provides support services to families living with HIV, by building supportive relationships and providing opportunities for children, through regular visits and our group outings programme, enabling families to overcome the challenges that living with HIV can bring.Read More
