Aloha Partners II was formed in 2004 to take advantage of the growth in mobile data traffic in the United States. Currently, Aloha Partner II is the 8th largest owner of wireless spectrum in the U.S. Aloha Partners II owns Advanced Wireless Spectrum (AWS) which is concentrated in 12 of the top 50 markets including many of the leading high tech area... s like San Francisco, San Jose, Denver, Austin and San Antonio. In 2004 Aloha Partners II purchased 15 licenses covering 38 million pops from the Federal Communications Commission in the Advanced Wireless Spectrum (AWS) auction. In 2007 and 2008 Aloha Partners II purchased an additional 37 AWS licenses covering 12 million pops from Nextwave Wireless. Today, Aloha Partners II has licenses that cover 50 million people and 630 million MHz pops. Originally, Aloha Partners II had planned to build its own wireless broadband networks in these major metropolitan areas. The FCC developed a National Broadband Plan in 2010 that indicated that wireless carriers would need to double their spectrum positions in the next 10 years in order to meet the growing demand for wireless data. The growth of Smartphones and tablets has been so dramatic that Aloha Partners II no longer believes that it has sufficient spectrum in its markets to meet the potential demand.
