Fun Fact: Weve been in the business of making our community a better place since the early 1980s! A group of our community members (namely: Duane Worley, Dick Lloyd, Geoff Hopkins, Jim Cadwallader, Bob Knight, Roger Schneekloth, Chris & Suzie Wilkinson, and John McGhehey) came together and said, Hey! We need a community center. Lets do all the hard... work of assessing our community needs, identifying a location, researching facilities, and tirelessly raise funds in the hopes that our town can one day have a rockin place for recreation. But really, they did all that work: the dream work, the leg work, and the plain ol nitty-gritty work of putting community needs above their own. How do we sum up the history of the Alliance Recreation Center? Well, here goes: the AARC was formed in the early 80s, the Y of the USA charter happened in the late 80s, and today, were simply known as the ARC with a bunch of members who have kept the dream alive and kickin. Thats over 30 years of being awesome. Boom. Weve been in the business of making our community a better place since the early 1980s! We received our charter from Y of the USA! Thanks to the Hoegerl, Kimmel, and Wacker families, the location, known for 14 awesome years as The Courts, became the home of the Alliance Area Family YMCA. With those two biggies, a location and charter, off the list, the effort to hire the first executive director was underway. Dan Akeley was hired and the organization continued to grow.
