Alight's unmatched role in sustainable development and socio-economic empowerment of the citizenry, particularly for the women and children, makes it stand amongst the top development sector organizations in Pakistan. Our presence in Pakistan dates back to 2002, when following the war and crisis in Afghanistan, some two million Afghan refugees sought safety across the border. We were the partner of choice for the Government of Pakistan helping the displaced through provision of protection services, healthcare, nutrition, education and building community resilience. One of our greatest strength is our local roots - we are firmly based in Pakistan and in our work we are driven by passion and by vision to make this country better, to empower the people and to bring hope for a better, brighter future. We speak local languages, we know local communities and have strong relationship with local government and with community organizations. We work in every province of the country, reaching distant villages and urban inner communities that no other organization has reached. Alight Pakistan's programs in Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan provide education, health care, clean water, shelter repair, mental health counseling, and community development services to 3 million people each year.
